Design time error in generated java script: bobj.crv.stateManager - see text

I had a report that was coming along very nicely in VS 2010 with Crystal XI, latest install.

I made a change to a subreport and suddenly I couldn't load the report. I created a new report stream based on the subreport and got it to load, but now I'm getting an error on this line on the HTML page:

bobj.crv.stateManager.setComponentState('CrystalReportViewer1__UI',eval('('+document.getElementById('__CRYSTALSTATECrystalReportViewer1').value+')'));

Does anyone have an idea what might lead to this?

I added two subreports to the original subreport, which was when things started going south and I was working through the process that would link the subreports to the main reports. I dropped the additional subreports and it was at that point that I could get past the load error, but then it failed on this line of java code.

Any thoughts will be much appreciated. Meanwhile I'm going to try rebuilding from scratch.
